Effective date: 13 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data The GRYD (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit grydglobal.com, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have. The GRYD is an independent defence and geopolitics publication. For any privacy question, use our Contact page or email grydglobal@gmail.com.

1. Data we collect

  • Usage and device data: pages viewed, referring site, approximate location (derived from IP address), browser, device type and similar technical data. This comes from cookies and similar technologies (see section 3).
  • Information you send us: if you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and message.
  • Comments and accounts: if you comment or create an account, we store the details you provide (name, email, comment text) and your IP address for spam prevention.
  • Security logs: our security software records IP addresses and request details to block attacks.

We do not ask for sensitive data (such as health, religion or political opinions), and we do not sell personal data.

2. Services we use

  • Google AdSense shows advertising on this site. Google and its partners use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads, which may be personalised based on your visits to this and other websites. Learn how Google uses data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can turn off personalised ads at Google Ad Settings or opt out of some third-party vendors at aboutads.info.
  • Google Analytics 4 and Google Site Kit measure how readers use the site (for example, which articles are read and for how long). Google processes this data on our behalf. You can install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
  • Contact Form 7 sends messages from our contact form to our email inbox. Akismet (Automattic) checks comments and form submissions for spam, which involves sending the submission and your IP address to Akismet.
  • Wordfence (security) and LiteSpeed Cache (performance) process IP addresses and technical request data to protect and speed up the site.
  • Embedded content (for example YouTube videos or social posts) behaves as if you visited the other site, and that provider may set its own cookies.

3. Cookies and consent

We use essential cookies (for site function and security), analytics cookies (Google Analytics) and advertising cookies (Google AdSense and its partners). Advertising and analytics cookies can identify your browser or device, so they are not anonymous. Where the law requires consent, for example in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, non-essential cookies are used only with your consent, and you can change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. See our Cookie Policy for details.

4. Why we use your data (legal bases)

  • Consent: personalised advertising and analytics cookies where consent is required.
  • Legitimate interests: keeping the site secure, preventing spam, understanding readership and replying to your messages.
  • Legal obligation: responding to lawful requests.

5. How long we keep data

Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with them and for up to 24 months afterwards. Comments are kept while they remain published. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Analytics account (14 months by default). Security logs are kept for a limited period, as set by the security software.

6. International transfers

Our service providers, including Google, may process data outside your country, including in the United States. They rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions where required.

7. Your rights

UK and EU/EEA (UK GDPR / GDPR): you can request access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, restrict or object to processing, ask for data portability, and withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): you can request information about, correction of and erasure of your personal data, withdraw consent, nominate another person to exercise your rights, and raise a grievance with us. If we don’t resolve it, you can approach the Data Protection Board of India.

Elsewhere (for example US states, Canada, Australia): we will respond to requests in line with the privacy law that applies to you. To make any request, contact us using the details above. We reply within one month.

8. Children

This site is intended for adult readers and is not directed at children under 16 (under 18 in India). We do not knowingly collect children’s personal data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

The site uses HTTPS, security monitoring and access controls. No method of transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

10. Changes to this policy

We will update this page if our practices change and revise the effective date above.
